About the AEA

A professional association built by Army Engineers to serve Army Engineers. You are why we exist, and enhancing the profession is what we do.

History of the Army Engineer Association

The Army Engineer Association (AEA) is primarily focused on connecting and fostering a community within the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) family, including soldiers, civilians, family members, and alumni, allowing them to network and interact with each other; its history is essentially intertwined with the history of the USACE itself, which dates back to the American Revolution war when the need for trained engineers became apparent. This led the Continental Congress to establish the Corps of Engineers in 1775 under the direction of Colonel Richard Gridley, who served as General George Washington’s first Chief Engineer.

In 1802, the Army officially created the Corps of Engineers as a separate branch of the Army. Over the years, the Army Corps of Engineers has been involved with various military and civilian projects.

The Army Engineer Association (AEA) was officially founded in 1992. This organization emerged to maintain connections and professional development within the USACE community, facilitating networking and knowledge sharing among members across different ranks and roles.
